The Alex Bird Competition to find the 2011 Northern Racing Club Champion Tipster reached its climax with the York Ebor Meeting and under the new format was virtually decided by one horse, - Crackenthorp - which won the Sky Bet Handicap on the Friday and paid a Tote Dividend of over £60. It was cleverly selected by Alan Spencer, a previous winner of the Competition, so clearly no fluke choice. It also catapulted Alan top of the overall competition with 130 points and he is the winner of the Alex Bird Trophy for 2011. Congratulations to him, he wins £100. For the York win and the trophy, presentation of which will be arranged. Mike Ashwood and Charles Rear followed Alan home at York, whilst Mike with 121 points and John Boswell on 103 occupied the places in the overall contest. Well done to them and all who took part.
This concludes the 2011 series and also my part in administering things. I am taking a break and the competition will be in the safe hands of John Boswell in the future. To all members for their support and enthusiasm over the years, my thanks.
