Updated on Request in 2011

Previous race trends can often help provide a shortlist of potential winners in the current year's races where they have been run at least three times. Hopefully these brief pointers will assist race goers at Bangor On Dee. The figure in brackets after the race details is the favourite's strike rate for the race. Trainers who have won the race before are also highlighted if they had an entry at the 5 day entry stage.

Due to limited use of this web site updates will in future only be posted on request from NRC members - to request an update for a specific meeting please e mail info@northernracingclub.com - ideally at least 5 days before the meeting is due to take place.

 WED 10TH NOVEMBER

  • 1.10 - 2m 4f Beginners Chase (33%): Race run just 3 times before with past winners having finished 4th or better on last run and being well backed at 10/3 or shorter. Trainer to watch: P Hobbs (won 2008).

  • 2.10 3m+ H/cap Chase (12%): Four previous races held at the track with just one joint favourite obliging with remainder having odds of 8/1-10/1. All past winners had a 1st/2nd place on at least one of last three strats and all last ran some 171-235 days earlier.

  • 2.40 - 2m 1f Juv Maiden Hurdle (25%): Again race run four times before with past winners all making their NH debuts. No major shocks in past with odds of winners 6/1 or shorter. Trainer to watch: A King (won 2009).

  • 3.10 - 2m 1f Nov Hurdle (58%): Race run 6 times before as split into two divisions for two of the past four years. Only one past winner had odds greater than 11/4 so tends to pay to follow the first two in the betting. 4yo have won 4/6 races with others won by 6yo. Trainer to watch: D McCain jr (won 2007 & 2009).

  • 3.40 - 2m 1f (CJ) H/cap Hurdle (33%): Race only run 3 times before with 5yo taking all races to date. Another common factor has been a recent run within the last 17-48 days.

  FRIDAY 20TH AUGUST

This meeting had previously been run on the preceding Saturday with 5 of the races still intact for this new date.

  • 1.55 - 2m 4f maiden Hurdle (15%): A race won 5/13 times each by 4yo & 5yo respectively. The last 8 winners all finished 6th or better on their last completed start.

  • 2.30 - 2m 4f H/cap Chase (16%): Race only run 6 times before with 5 of these winners finishing 5th or better on their last run (all within last 31 days). Highest winners weight carried was 11st 9lbs. Trainer to watch: T Vaughan (won 2009).

  • 3.40 - 2m 1f H/cap Hurdle (0%): Race only run since 2005 with all five past winners also running into a 1st/2nd place on at least one of their last three runs. Lowest winning weight seen was 10st 6lbs. Trainers to watch: P Nicholls (won 2008) and P Bowen (2005).

  • 4.15 - 3m H/cap Chase (0)%): Another poor race for favourite backers with no winning 'jolly' in any of the past 7 runnings although most winners were reasonably backed at 8/1 or shorter. Past winners had all had a recent run in last 13-28 days, with ages of winners all between 7-9 years. Trainer to watch: P Webber (won in 2009 with De Soto who bids for a repeat today).

  • 4.50 - 2m 1f Nov H/cap Hurdle (20%): A marginally better race for favourites - last one won in 2004. Highest winners weight was 11st 12lbs. All winners rested at least 8 days since last run. Trainer to watch: J Unett (won 2009).

FRIDAY 30TH JULY

Historically this meeting used to signal the start of the new jumps season although nowadays it is just one of the many summer jumps meetings held!

  • 2.00 - 2m 1f Juv Nov Hurdle (44%): This race has either been won by a horse making its jumps debut (or one that didnt finish its only attempt) or ones that had finished 1st/2nd on at least one of last two runs under NH rules having finished 3rd or better on latest attempt.

  • 2.35 - 2m 4f Nov H/cap Chase (50%): A fairly new race run just 4 times before. All winners finished 4th or better on last run with last 3 winners winning LTO - having last run within the last 24 days. Highest winning weight carried to date has been 11st 9lbs. Trainer to watch: J O'Neill (Won 2009).

  • 3.10 - 2m 4f H/cap Hurdle (60%): Favourites have a strong record here, particularly for a handicap race. A 5th placed run or better was seen for all past winners fort heir latest completed race. It also has paid in the past to avoid horses that have run within the last week or that have had a long lay off. Lowest winning weight seen was 10st 11lbs.

  • 3.45 - 2m 1f Nov Hurdle (72%): Another very strong race for favourite backers with only one winner having odds greater than 9/2. A total of 11 races seen since 2000 as race divided one year - of these just one winner was making its jumping debut whilst of the aothers all but one had finished 4th or better on their last completed race. 6Yp horses have the best record with 6/11 wins. Trainers to watch: T Vaughan (Won 2009), J O'Neill (2005).

  • 4.20 - 2m 2f H/cap Chase (66%): Another fairly new race run just three times before. Of the few trends to date all winners had carried 11st 9lbs or more and all last ran some 19-38 days earlier. No real shocks seen with winners odds being 9/2 or shorter.

  • 4.55 - 2m 4f Mares Nov Hurdle (75%): Again race held just four times before with all winners having odds of 7/2 or lower. A 3rd place or better on last completed race was also a common trend.

  • 5.30 - 3m (CJ) H/cap Hurdle (6%): Statistically the most difficult race on the card to find the winner! Past winners were all rested at least 14 days since their last run with winners weights varying between 10st 6lbs and 11st 10lbs.

 TUESDAY 20TH JULY

  • 6.40 - 2m 4f H/cap Chase (25%): Only run 4 times before with all winners carrying between 11st 2lbs and 11st 8lbs. A 4th place or betetr on at least one of last two starts was also a common feature as was a run within the last 16-44 days. Trainers to watch: P Hobbs (won 2007), N Twiston-Davies (2008).

  • 7.10 - 2m 4f Nov Chase (65%): All 10 past winners had a 1st/2nd placed run on at least one of their last two starts. In the betting all were supported at odds of 5/1 or shorter. Oldest winner since 2000 was aged 8 years.

  • 7.40 - 2n 1f Nov Hurdle (70%): Favourites have a great record in the race with 7/10 winners having also won their last race. Trainer to watch: J O'Neill (won 2005 & 2007).

  • 8.10 - 2m 2f H/cap Chase (50%): Again only run 4 times before with all winners to date carrying a weight between 10st 3lbs and 11st 8lbs. Longest period off the track for past winners was 47 days. All SP's of winners were 10/1 or shorter.

  • 8.40 & 9.10 - 2m 4f H/cap Hurdle (40%): Often a competitive handicap although all previous winners were fairly well backed at odds of 8/1 or shorter. A 4th place or better on at least one of last two runs is a common factor as is a run within the last 9-72 days. Two past winners are seen in the respective divisions - Tarkesar won in 2007 for another trainer whilst Ruby Valentine won in 2009 for the same trainer/jockey partnership.

TUESDAY 8TH JUNE

This is a new fixture thus no past trends are available today.

SATURDAY MAY 15TH

  • 2.20 - 2m 4f Nov H/cap Hurdle (20%): All past winners carried a weight of between 10st 7lbs and 11st 8lbs. Only 1/10 winners had finished worse than 5th on their last race. Ages of winners has ranged from 5-8 years. Trainers to watch: J Mackie (won 2008) & N Twiston-davies (won 2000).

  • 2.55 - 2m 4f Novice Chase (20%): Trainer A King has notched up three consecutive winners from 2007-9 and Masked Man is set to represent the stable this year and looks the likely favourite - a word of caution however as none of past stable winners were favourites! Of the 5 past winners 4 also won their last race and all were aged between 5-7 years.

  • 3.30 - 2m 4f H/cap Chase (0%): The last winning favourite in this race was 1998. Past winners all aged between 7-10 years with 9/10 winners having last run within 33 days. Whilst 2/10 topweighted horses have won the race before all others cam from the bottom end of the weights.

  • 4.05 - 2m 1f H/cap Hurdle (10%): Oldest winner since 2000 was aged 8 years. All but one past winner had last run within 31 days. Trainers to watch: D McCain jr (won 2008) & J O'Neill (2001).

  • 4.40 & 5.15 - 2m 1f NH Flat Race (40%): the last 7 winners all finished 6th or better on their last run and prior to that there were three winners all making their racecourse debuts. 5Yo are the preferred age group with 6/10 wins. Trainers to watch: D McCain jr (won 2009) & N Henderson (won 2000).

  • 5.45 - 3m Hunter Chase (70%): There have been several multiple winners of this race before and Border Fusion is seeking its 4th consecutive win today - a word of caution however as all past wins were when favourite in the betting and past jockey (Mr R Burton) rides another horse today. Indeed the betting market is usually a good giude with 7/10 winners starting as favourite.

FRIDAY 30TH APRIL

  • (6.50) 2m 2f Nov H/cap Chase (45%): The last 5 races have been won by either the sole/joint favourite. All of the last 10 winners had finished 5th or better on their last completed race. 7Yo horses have the best record in the race with 5/10 wins.

  • (7.20) 2m 4f H/cap Chase (10%): All past winners had finished 5th or better on at least one of their last two races. All were also rested at least 13 days since their last run. Only 2 of the last 10 winners had odds higher than 8/1.Trainer to watch: A King (won 2007 & 2009).

  • (7.50) 3m Nov Hunter Chase (60%): Favourite backers generally fare well in this race - however we have had two consecutive winning favourites and going back to 1992 we have never seen three consecutive winning favourites in the race. Most past winners had either only PtP form or those with NH rules form had generally finished 2nd or better on their last completed race under NH rules. 8Yo horses are te best age group to follow with 6/10 wins.

  • (8.20) 2m 1f H/cap Hurdle (50%): The last 9 winners all had odds of 7/1 or shorter. All winners had finished 3rd or better on at least one of their last three races. Oldest winner since 2000 was aged 8 years. Trainers to watch: D McCain jr (won 2007) and J O'Neill (won 2002).

FRIDAY 23RD APRIL

This was effectively a new meeting in 2009 although one race was moved from the following week's fixture which means there is just one race today which has been run at least 3 times before:

(8.15) 2m 1f H/cap (28%): All 7 past winners were reasonably backed and had SP's of 7/1 or shorter. Of these 5/7 had won at least one of their last two races.Trainer to watch: J Mackie (won 2003).

SATURDAY 17TH APRIL

(2.05) 3m Nov Hurdle (75%): All 6 previous winners had finished 1st/2nd on at least one of their last two completed races (excluded PTP form). All last raced between 13-112 days previously. Longest priced SP of winner was 9/2. Trainer to watch: D McCain Jr (won 2009).

(2.40 & 5.25) 2m 4f H/cap Hurdle (11%): The race has largely been won by outsiders with odds of 10-1 or higher. None of the past winners finished better than 3rd on their last start. All were aged between 5-7 years with 7yo winning 5/9 races. Trainer to watch: P Bowen (won 2007) & G Ham (2002).

(3.45) 3m H/cap Hurdle (27%): Occasionally some races throw up remarkably few consistent trends - and this in one of them! Only significant trend is that all previous winners last raced between 14-41 days earlier.

(4.20) 3m H/cap Chase (11%): Poor race for favourites albeit race usually attracts a larger field than this. Lowest weight carried by past winners was 10st 10lbs. Last seven winners had finished 4th or better on their last completed race.

(4.55) 3m Hunter Chase (38%): Again few common trends here. Betting may give the best clue with 7/9 winners starting at odds of 4/1 or shorter. Trainer to watch: C St V Fox (won 2007).

SATURDAY MARCH 27TH

(2.05) 2m1f Claiming Hurdle (33%): All past winners had finished 5th or bettter on at least one of last two completed races. Conditional jockeys claiming a weight allowance have ridden 6 or the last 9 winner.

(2.40) 2m1f Nov Hurdle (44%): All past winners had finished 3rd or better on at least one of last two starts. A last run within 10-36 days was also a common factor. Trainer to watch: J O'Neill (won 2008).

(3.15) 3m Beginners Chase (16%): All past winners had finished either 2nd/3rd on last completed race. No past winners had been rested for more than 142 days since last run.

(3.45) 2m4f H/cap Chase (33%): All past winners finished 4th or better on last start. Lowest weight carried by winners was 10st 12lbs. Trainer to watch: H Daly (won 2009).

(4.55) 2m2f H/cap Chase (20%): All past winners had finished 4th or better on at least one of last three runs. Lowest weight carried by winners was 10st 11lbs.  All rested at least 14 days since last run. Trainer to watch: R Ford (won 2007).

Wednesday 3rd March

(2.20) 2m1f (Mares) NH Novice Hurdle (50%): As usual in a non handicap race the favourites record is quite strong - interestingly all winning favourites were odds on at 4/5 or shorter. A common trend across all winners was a 4th placed run or better on last two starts. All were also aged 5 years or older. Trainers to watch: D McCain Jr (won 2008), N Henderson (won 2007).

(2.50) 2m2f Beginners Chase (60%): Only run five times before with last three favourites winning. Again a common trend was a 4th place or better on at least one of last two runs. All past winners to date were aged between 7-9 years.

(3.50) 3m Handicap Chase (25%): All previous winners aged between 7-10 years with max weight carried being 11st 9lbs. All winners had also been rested at least 20 days since last run. A 5th place or better on at least one of last two starts was seen for 7/8 winners. Trainer to watch: Ms V Williams (won 2009).

(4.50) 2m4f Novices Handicap Chase (16%): All winners aged between 6-8 years and carried at least 10st 8lbs. Again all had finished 4th or better on one of last two races.  Past winners had been rested at least 19 days since last run. Trainer to watch: Ms V Williams (won 2008 & 2005), B Powell (won 2003).

Friday 12th February

Thankfully the meeting has survived the weather today. Past trends are available for the following races:

(1.35) 2m1f Novice Hurdle (55%):  Not a bad race for favourite backers with longest winner's SP since 2000 returned at 8/1. 5 & 6yo horses have the best record winning 7/9 races. A similar figure (7/9) winners had also either won or been placed 2nd on at least one of their last two races. No unraced horse has won this race in the past and none had been rested for more than 63 days since their last race. Trainer to watch: J O'Neill (won 2008).

(2.10) 2m1f H/cap Hurdle (16%): A weaker race for favourite backers although last five winners all had some support in the market at odds of 6/1 or shorter. All past winners had finished 6th or better on their last completed run. Past winners all aged between 6-9 years old. Trainers to watch: Ms R Curtis (won 2009) and Ms V Williams (won 2003).

(3.55) 3m6f H/cap Chase(42%): All past winners finished 6th or better on last completed run (all running within last 62 days). All past winners were aged 8 years or older. Only one of the last seven winners carried less than 10st 13lbs so generally best looking at the top half of the weights. Trainers to watch: D McCain Jr (won 2009) and T George (won 2006).

(4.30) 2m4f Hunter Chase (35%): This race is now usually won by one of the mainstream trainers as opposed to the older trends where smaller point to point yards would have often provided the winner - however there is an exception to this rule today (see below). Because records are often confusing between NH and PTP races I shall not dwell on this aspect. What is interesting fiven the shorter trip for this hunter chase is that the last seven winners were all aged between 11-13 years so maybe best to look towards the veterans to find the winner today! Trainers to watch: J O'Neill (won 2008) and Mrs E Crow (won 2003).

Fridays 5th February

Today is a new additional fixture so no past race trends are available.
