Previous race trends can often help provide a shortlist of potential winners in the current year's races where they have been run at least three times. Hopefully these brief pointers will assist race goers at Chester. The figure in brackets after the race details is the favourite's strike rate for the race. Trainers who have won the race before are also highlighted if they had an entry at the 5 day entry stage. Due to limited use of this web site updates will in future only be posted on request from NRC members - to request an update for a specific meeting please e mail info@northernracingclub.com - ideally at least 5 days before the meeting is due to take place.

2.35 - 7f Maiden for 2yo (70%): 5/10 winners came out of stall 1 in this race so Ibsaar needs to be on te shortlist at least. No previously unraced horse has won this event since 1998. Trainer to watch: B Hills (won 2004). -
3.35 - 1m 4f (Listed) Stakes (25%): Only run 4 times before with all winners last running some 17-25 days earlier. On this occasion only Harris tweed fits this criteria. -
4.45 - 2m Handicap (40%): Mith Hill is attempting a double in the race after winning last year although was then aged 8 years and the oldest winner of the race since 1994 so would need to set a new record as a 9yo to win today! M Tompkins is another trainer to win the race before (in 2007) and his Omokoroa looks interesting on today's softer ground. -
5.20 - 5f Handicap (30%): In a 10 runner field stalls 1&2 should prove an advantage and both are filled by E Alston's runners (won race in 2003) - of the two runners Doctor Parkes has the best record at the track. Another trainer to win this before is R Fahey whose Tasmeem looks less well drawn on the face of it in stall 6 although this stall has provided 4 winners since 1999 thus should be included in reckoning. -
5.55 - 1m 2f Handicap (25%): Again race run just 4 times before. With all winners carrying between 8st 10lbs and 9st 3lbs. All were also reasonably backed at odds of 7/1 or shorter thus of the two horses in this weightband Child Of Our Time is just preferred although high draw is not ideal. Of those drawn lower Dazakhee is interesting
FRI SEPT 10TH This is a new fixture thus no past trends available today.

2.20 & 6.10 - 6f Handicap - New race in 2010. -
2.50 - 1m 5f Listed Handicap (10%): M Stoute & E Dunlop are leading trainers in the race with 2 wins each. The Stoute winners had both finished 4th or better on their last run and were well backed at 11/2 or shorter whilst the Dunlop winners had both finished 3rd on their last run and were similarly well backed at 5/1 or shorter. Draw: Low 50%; Middle 30%; High 20%. -
3.25 - 7.5f Handicap (20%): D Nicholls & B Hills are leading trainers in this race with 2 wins each - The Nicholls wins were both recorded by True Night in consecutive years 2002-3 whilst the Hills wins in 2001 & 2004 were both with 3yo's carrying 9st 2lbs or less. A Balding is another trainer with a past winner who also has a runner today. Draw: Low 30%; Middle 30%; High 40%. -
3.55 - 6f Fillies Stks for 2yo (40%): Past winners were all rested at least 12 days since their previous race. Stalls £ & 5 have each provided 3 of the last 10 winners. Trainers to watch: A Berry (won 2004) & A Bailey (2008). Draw: Low 30%; Middle 60%; High 10%. -
4.30 - 7f Maiden for 2yo (40%): Punters could be excused for looking no further than B Hill's runner in this race as he has won 6/9 latest renewals here. All the stable's past winners were well backed at 5/1 or shorter - a word of caution however as all previous winners were drawn in stall 9 or lower so today's runner in stall 12 looks to have a bit more to do! R Hannon also has 2 wins in the race in 2007-8 so his runner should not be ignored although it seems that it does not have the previous good form that the yards other runners had. Draw: Low 30%; Middle 60%; High 10%. -
5.05 - 6f Stks for 2yo (43%): Racegoers will probably be fully aware that Chester favours low drawn horses in sprints and this race has certainly lived up to the reputation with 6/10 winners coming from stall 1 - Fight The Chance who occupies the pole position this time is trained by M Channon who won the race in 2000. The only other trainer to win the race before is R Fahey (2008). Draw: Low 30%; Middle 60%; High 10%. -
5.40 - 2m Handicap (40%): M Tompkins has won the race for two of the last three years - both being well backed at 4/1 or shorter and finishing 5th or better on their last run. Draw: Low 40%; Middle 50%; High 10%.
SUNDAY 1ST AUG
-
2.25 - 7f Maiden for 2yo (70%): No previously unraced horse has won this event before with all winners having finished 6th or better on their last run (within the last 11-53 days). Drawfacts: Low 40%, Middle 50%, High 10%. Trainer to watch: B Hills (Won 2002, 2003). -
2.55 - 6f Nursery for 2yo (50%): 8/10 winners carried 9st or more. A last run within the last 8-23 days was also a common feature - finishing 6th or better. Drawfacts: Low 50%, Middle 20%, High 30%. -
3.30 - 6f Queensferry Stakes (20%): Doncaster Rover is bidding for a repeat win although as no past winner has been drawn higher than stall 7 a repeat today seems unlikely. Past winners had all last run within the last 71 days. Drawfacts: Low 50%, Middle 40%, High 10%. Trainers to watch: K Ryan (won 2007, 2008), D Brown (2009), PD Evans (2006), A Berry (2000). -
4.05 - 7.5f Handicap (35%): A 4th place or better on either of last 2 races were seen for 9/10 past winners. Longest period off track for past winners was 75 days. Drawfacts: Low 50%, Middle 40%, High 10%. Trainers to watch: A Bailey (Won 2000), P Green (2009). -
4.40 - 1m 2f Handicap for 3yo (40%): Only run 5 times before with all winners having consistent form with all finishing 6th or better in their last three races. Drawfacts: Low 40%, Middle 60%, High 0%. Trainers to watch: W Brisbourne (Won 2005), PD Evans (2009). -
5.10 - 1m 4f Handicap (40%): No past winner has carried more than 9st 10lbs in this race. All winners had also been rested at least 10 days for this race. Oldest past winner aged 5years. Drawfacts: Low 40%, Middle 20%, High 40%. Trainers to watch: R Fahey (won 2004), A King (2005).
