DONCASTER LEGER MEETING - 10 YEAR TRENDS

(Listed) Scarbrough Stakes over 5F (10%); D Barker & R Hannon are leading trainers having 2 wins each - the Barker yard won both races with Celtic Mill whilst the Hannon yard also notched a double with Galeota. 9/10 winners had a run within the last 34 days and a similar percentage had finished 6th or better on their last run. No 2yo has won the race going back to 1986. Drawfacts: Low 22%, Middle 33%, High 45%.

1M 'St Leger Legends' Stakes (n/a): New race in 2010.

1M 2F Conditions Stakes (44%);  S Bin Suroor is leading trainer with 3 winners - none of the winners had raced more than 3 times during the current season with all well backed at 7/2 or shorter. J Dunlop has also won the race twice before - again both were well backed at 7/2 or shorter. Drawfacts: Low 33%; Middle 45%, High 22%.

7F Handicap for 3yo (0%): A fairly new race (in 2007) with limited trends so far. Winners had all last run some 19-46 days earlier. Three of the four winners had odds between 7/1 & 8/1.  Drawfacts: Middle 50%, High 50%.

5F Handicap (30%); J Wainwright is leading trainer with 2 wins - however last win was in 2002. 4yo horses have a good record in the race with 5/10 wins. A last run 6-23 days earlier was another common factor. Drawfacts: Low 20%. Middle 50%, High 30%.

6.5F Nursery for 2yo fillies (20%): P Cole has trained the winners of 2 of the last 3 renewals of this race with both running 3rd on their last start, as well as enjoying a very high draw, although both were largely ignored in the betting ring with odds of 16-1 or greater. As a general note the last seven winners were all in good form finishing 3rd or better on their last run. Highest weight carried by past winners is 9st 3lbs. Drawfacts: Low 11%, Middle 22%, High 67%.

(Gr 3) Sceptre Stakes over 7F  (35%);   3yo have the best record in this event with 8/10 wins. A similar percentage (80%) of winners had odds of 7/1 or shorter. Drawfacts: Low 22%, Middle 45%, High 33%.

6.5F  (Weatherby's Insurance) Stakes for 2yo (33%): Another of these very valuable yearlings sales races. B Meehan is currently leading trainer in the race with 2 wins  -  both had run four times before finishing 5th LTO and 3rd or better on all other starts. As a general rule all past winners had finished 5th or better on their last run (within last 15-41 days). Drawfacts: Low 33%, Middle 22%, High 45%.

Gr 2 Park Hill Stakes over 1M 7F  (23%); Until last years winner from Mark Johnston's yard the race has been dominated by Southern trained horses plus one French raider - no Irish trained winners going back to 1986. Sir M Stoute is leading trainer on 2 wins - both having finished 4th or better on last run and were well backed at 9/2 or shorter - he does not however have any runner in this year's renewal.  3yo have best record with 6/10 wins. 9/10 past winners finished 5th or better LTO. All winners were rested at least 20 days since their last race. Drawfacts: Low 56%, Middle 22%, High 22%.

1M Maiden for 2yo (40%); Past winners suggest that horses held back for longer distance juvenile races have best record with 9/10 winners racing no more than once before including two previously unraced horses.  8/10 past winners had odds of 10/1 or shorter. Drawfacts: Low 30%, Middle 40%, High 30%.

6F Handicap (25%): New race in 2007 thus limited trends to date. Past winners had all finished 5th or better on last run. Drawfacts: Low 25%, High 75%.

1M 2F Handicap (13%); Sir M Stoute is the trainer to watch here with 3 past wins - all being well backed at 13/2 or shorter. Highest weight carried by past winners was 9st 8lbs. Drawfacts: No advantage.

Grp 2 Doncaster Cup over 2m 2f (30%); J Dunlop & AP O'Brien are joint leading trainers with 2 wins each although neither has a runner in 2011. A 6th place or better was seen on all last run for all winners with all also rested at least 17 days since last run. The key form guide however is a last run in York's Lonsdale Cup with 6/10 winners finishing 4th or better in that race thus Opinion Poll & Bego should be on shortlists this year. Drawfacts: Low 11%, Middle 22%, High 67%.

Gr 2 May Hill Stakes over 1 Mile for 2yo fillies (30%); J Gosden & R Hannon are joint top trainers with 2 wins each - Only J Gosden has a runner this year and both of his previous winners had both had just two runs finishing 2nd or better on both but winning last time. Generally the more experienced horses have fared best with 8/10 running twice or more previously. Overall 8/10 winners also won last race. A last run 13-40 days earlier was also a common factor. Drawfacts: Low 20%; Middle 44%; High 44%. Only run on straight course since 2005 and at York 2006.

6.5F Handicap (n/a); New race in 2009.

7F Conditions Stakes for 2yo (50%); All winners in last 10 years had raced no more than twice before including just two previously unraced horses. All were trained in the South and were generally well backed at odds of 9/2 or shorter (just two exceptions at higher SP's who were previously unraced). Last five winners with racecourse experience had won their only previous race. Drawfacts: Low 11%, Middle 33%, High 55%.

1M 2F Classified Stakes for 3yo (16%);   All last raced 11-61 days earlier finishing 6th or better. Drawfacts: Low 22%, Middle 44%, High 33%.

Grp 2 Champagne Stakes  over 7F for 2yo (20%); M Johnston, EJ O'Neill & S Bin Suroor are the joint leading trainers with 2 wins - but none of them have a runner this year! Of the past winners with only one or two past races all but one were ubeaten. Of the more experienced past winners (3+ races) all had no more than one run out of the first three in past races.  Drawfacts: Low 44%, Middle 28%, High 28%.

5.5F  Portland Handicap (30%); K Ryan is leading trainer on 3 wins - all courtessy of Halmahera who won for three consecutive years between 2002-4. All winners last ran some 11-35 days earlier. Last four races all won by 5yo's. Lowest weight carried by winners in last 10 years was 8st 13lbs. Drawfacts: Low 22%, Middle 33%, High 44%.

1 Mile Handicap (27%); M Channon remains the leading trainer on 2 wins after a double with Muchea in 2002-3. A last run at York  22-23 days earlier was seen in 5/10 past winners. All past winners have carried a weight of 8st 12lbs or lower. Drawfacts: Low 33%, Middle 11%, High 56%.

Gr 2 Park Stakes over 7F (12%): Distance of race shortened to 7F in 2003. Only trainer to win race more than once since then was J Noseda whose 2 wins came with Arabiam Gleam. Iffraaj also posted back to back wins in 2007-8 although with different trainers.  Balthazars Gift attempts back to back wins this year although no 8yo has won this race before. Drawfacts: Low 28%, Middle 28%, High 44%.

1 Mile Nursery Handicap for 2yo (33%); A 4th place or better on last run was seen for all past winners with 6/9 also winning their last race (within last 10-41 days).   Drawfacts: Low 33%, Middle 45%, High 22%.
