Drawfacts

In the past most racing enthusiasts have had to make do with generalised comments such as 'low/high draw an advantage'. Did this mean only the highest/lowest stall? The top/bottom half of the draw? Did the size of the field make a difference? We never really knew so 'Drawfacts Data' was created to try and solve some of these myths!

The Drawfacts data on the following pages are considered to be unique and will shortly cover the races on all the mainland UK flat racing tracks since 2002 - for races which are still being run on these tracks.

Whilst the data is continually collected the web pages will be updated every few months on the basis that with 10 years data the statistics will vary only slightly from month to month.

Generally speaking the data will prove more reliable the greater the sample of races covered - thus for some tracks the sample covered to date is probably still too small to be reliable whilst on the all weather tracks the samples are much greater and potentially most reliable.

Drawfacts data will in future be made available to NRC members with non members also able to subscribe for just £10pa.

In the short term a free trial service is being made available until 1st April 2012 to allow users to try out the information on the all weather tracks ahead of the main flat season.

A sample of a drawfacts page is shown below - this relates to 5 furlong races at Lingfield's AW track covering to period 2002 to early 2012 for races still being run on the track:

    • The top line in shaded area shows the highest stall number used in the race whilst the left hand shaded area shows the stall number. Thus when max 10 stalls are used stall 5 has the best record with 15 wins.
    • T = total wins for each individual stall with % figure also calculated for each stall.
    • Bottom shaded areas show total number of races run with each different size fields and also average wins per stall e.g. in a max 10 field any score above 9.1 (ave) may be viewed as positive.
    • The top stall for each column is highlighted in bold and approximately the top third of the stall numbers (on a percentage basis) are also highlighted in bold.
    • The larger the sample used (195 races in example) the more reliable the statistics should be.
    • Positioning of the stalls is disregarded for this data and for turf tracks no account of the going is taken.
    • Data is best used in conjunction with other form guides etc and should not be used as the sole basis for backing/laying horses.
