SUNDAY 27TH MARCH Only 4 of today's races have been run at least 3 times before - they are: 2.10 & 2.40 - 2m Nov Hurdle (50%): All last ran 8-36 days earlier and all aged between 5-7 years old. Trainers to watch: R Johnson (won 2003), JH Johnson (won 2009). 3.40 - 2m 4f Handicap Hurdle (14%): 7yo have the best record in this race with 4/7 wins. All winners had finished 6th or better on their last completed run. Trainer to watch: JH Johnson (won 2002 & 2009). 4.10 - 3m Nov Hurdle (20%): All 5 past winners were aged either 6/7 years. A 6th place or better on last run was also a common trait as was a recent run (21-32 days earlier).
WEDNESDAY 17TH NOVEMBER
-
1.10 - 2m Nov Hurdle (33%): Race run 6 times before with the last 5 winners all finishing 4th or better on their last run. Only two winning favourites seen and both of these were long odds on! Trainer to watch: J Jefferson (won 2007). -
2.10 - 2m 4f H/cap Hurdle (33%): Again race run 6 times before with the two winning favourites also having won their last race. Apart from the last winner in 2008 the remainder had all finished 3rd or better on their last run. Trainer to watch: M Smith (won in 2005 with Texas Holdem who runs again today. The ground that day was soft). -
2.40 - 4m H/cap Chase ((33%): This race run just 3 times before with all winners to date carrying between 10st 6lbs and 10st 10lbs and having a last run some 15-19 days earlier. Trainers to watch@ Mrs S Smith (won 2005) & F Murphy (2007). -
3.40 - 2m Juv Maiden Hurdle (37%): All 4 past winners were sent off at odds of 7/1 or shorter. The last two winners were making their NH debuts whilst the others both had a 2nd/3rd placed run on either of their last two runs. Trainers to watch: TP Tate (won 2005) & F Murphy (2006).
FRIDAY 1ST OCTOBER
-
2.10 - 2m Selling Hurdle (50%): All past winners were aged 7 years or younger with trainers to win before including Irish trainer J Lambe (who has two runners with Hawksbury Hill the winner in 2008) and JJ Quinn. Favourites tend to fare ok so for three to follow in the race I'd go for Totoman, Hawksbury Heights & Holiday Cocktail with Totoman just preferred -
2.40 - 3m 1f Nov Chase (66%): JM Jefferson won the race in 2008 and all three past winners were well backed at 15/8 or shorter - using this criteria Cape Tribulation looks the logical choice. -
3.15 - 3m Nov Hurdle (75%); JH Johnson won the race in 2007 & 2008 and Ms L Russell won in 2005 so both of their runners deserve respect. Moon Indigo is the Johnson runner this time and also the likely favourite so the trends favour this horse - however unlike the previous stable winners it has yet to race under NH rules or beyond 2m - however on the flat it has won on soft ground which it will probably encounter today -
3.50 - 3m 1f H/cap Chase (18%): Several trainers have won the race before and have runners today, these include: M Hammond (2005), F Murphy (2006) & Ms L Russell ((2009) . Of these trainers I prefer Reckless Venture. Only one past winner carried more than 10st 13lbs so if looking for a lower weighted alternative I'd also include Murphy's Beau on the basis that all past winenrs had also been rested at least 31 days since their last run. -
5.00 - 2m H/cap Chase (25%): Mrs S Bradburne & JC Haynes are the omly trainers to win the race before (in 2006 & 2009 respectively). Whilst we have seen two top weights winning the race most winners carried 10st 6lbs or less and given the forecast rain it may pay to look lower down the handicap in this event. It looks a trappy race and my three against the field would be Sam Cruise, Safin and Panthers Run (won race last year).
SATURDAY 12TH JUNE
-
(1.55) 2m Mares Nov Hurdle (33%): All past winners had SP's of 8/1 or shorter. A 6th place or better on last start was seen for 8/9 recent winners of the race. Horses aged 5/6 years have won 7/9 races. Trainers to watch: JJ Lambe (won 2008 & 2009). -
(2.30) 2m Handicap Hurdle (30%): All past winners finished 5th or better on their last completed race. In the betting all were backed down to odds of 8/1 or shorter. 8/10 winners carried weights of 11st or greater. Conditional jockets have a good record in the race riding 7/10 winners. No 4yo has won the race in the last 10 years. -
(3.05) 2m Handicap Chase (20%): 9/10 winners carried weights between 10st 5lbs & 11st 9lbs. 7/8 year olds are the slightly preferred age group supplying 6/10 past winners. Trainer to watch: F Murtagh (won 2007). -
(3.40) 2m4f handicap Hurdle (30%): All past winners carried weights of between 10st 9lbs and 11st 10lbs. 5 of the last 7 winners were ridden by conditional jockeys. No 10yo has won the race in the last 10 years. -
(4.10) 2m 4f Handicap Chase (0%): A race that has thrown up two shock winners in the last 4 years at odds of 40/1 and 66/1. 7/9 winners carried a weight of 10st 13lbs or lower. The last 6 winners were all ridden by conditional jockeys. Trainer to watch: Mrs L Normile (won 2005), Mrs S Smith (won 2002). -
(4.45) & (5/15) 2m NH Flat Race (55%): 5yo horses have the slightly better record with 5/10 wins. All past winners were backed at odds of 8/1 or shorter. Trainers to watch: G Swinbank (won 2006), Mrs S Smith (2000), JJ Lanbe (2008).
SATURDAY 5TH JUNE
-
(2.15) 2m 4f Nov Hurdle (65%): Past winners were all 6th or better on last race and had SP of 9/2 or shorter. Trainer to watch: G Swinbank (won 2004). -
(2.45) 2m 4f Nov Chase (40%): Past winners had all finished 5th or better on last run (in current season) and had last raced some 10-28 days earlier. Trainer to watch: P Monteith (won 2006). -
(3.20) 3m 1f Hcap Chase (50%): A run within the last 21 days was a common trend with 9/10 past winners finishing 5th or better on last run. 8/10 winners carried aweight of 10st 5lbs or lower. -
(3.50) 2m Hcap Hurdle (14%): Race resumes after a 3 year gap. Past winners all rested at least 8 days since last run and all had SP's of 9/1 or shorter. Highest winning weight seen was 11st 5lbs. -
(4.25) 2m 4f Hunter Chase (30%): Only 2/10 winners had odds greater than 6/1. Take the Stand was the oldest winner of the race last year at age 13 thus another win today will create a new record for this event. Trainers to watch: P Bowen (won 2009), G Sunter (2002).
TUESDAY MAY 25TH
-
(6.35) 2m (AR) Nov H/cap Hurdle (Fav 20%): The mixture of amateur riders and novice hurdlers is no doubt partly the reason why favourites have a poor strike rate in the race! All past winners aged between 4-7 years with 5/6 yo beig the preferred age band with 8/10 wins. All last raced within last 7-97 days. -
(7.05) 2m 4f Maiden Hurdle (Fav 50%): Only run 4 times before but is generally a race that favours betetr backed horses with all winner's odds being 11/4 or shorter. The last two winners were trained in Ireland and another Irish trained winner today would not be a surprise. Past winenrs had all finished 2nd in a hurdle race on at least one of their last 3 races. -
(7.35) 3m 1f Nov Chase (Fav 33%): Race only run 3 times before with all winners to date having run in the last 13-22 days. Ages of past winners were all 7/8 years. -
(8.35) 2m H/cap Chase (Fav 33%): Again the race run just 3 times before. All winners to date were rested at least 17 days since their last run and all were aged between 7-9 years. Highest weight carried by a winner to date has been 10st 12lbs. -
(9.05) 3m H/cap Hurdle (Fav 15%): Weights carried by last 10 winners were all between 10st 2lbs and 11st 12lbs, and all had last run within 19 days.
SUNDAY MAR 28TH Just three races today which have been run at least three times before - they are: (2.10) 2m Novice Hurdle (50%): All past winners aged between 5-7 years. Trainer to watch: JH Johnson (won 2009). (3.15) 2m4f H/cap Hurdle (14%): All past winners aged between 5-9 years. A 6th place or better on last completed run was seen for all past winners. All rested at least 13 days since last rum. Trainers to watch: JH Johnson (won 2002 & 2009), M Hammond (2000). (3.50) 3m Novice Hurdle (25%): Only run four times before with all winners to date aged 6/7 years. A 6th place or better on last start seen for all winners. Trainer to watch: F Murhy (won 2009).
Thurday March 18th (2.20) 2m Cond Jocks H/cap Hurdle (18%): All past winners had last run within last 75 days. A weight of 11st 3lbs or less was carried by all past winners. There have been two winners from the 'Bollin' family in the last four years. Trainers to watch: P Atkinson (won in 2008 with Mini Minster, who is declared to run again this year), D Whillans (won 2007) and T Easterby (won 2005). (2.55) 2m Novice Chase (75%): An interesting race despite the small field. With favourites strike rate being so good, Noble Alan looks likely to be popular. However all past winners had raced in last 30 days and P Monteith is the only trainer with a past win in the race (in 2008) so there is a case to take on the favourite with one of the two other runners perhaps? (4.15) 4m H/cap Chase (25%): Apart from last years winner the rast had finished 4th or better on one or both of last two races. Oldest past winner aged 11yrs and lowest weight carried was 10st 1lbs. (4.55) 3m H/cap Hurdle (50%): Favourites fare better than usual here in a handicap race. Six of the last eight winners carried a weight of 11st 2lbs or greater. All past winners were aged between 6-8 years. Trainers to watch: A Whillans (won 2009) and Mrs H Graham (won 2002). (5.25) 2m4f H/cap Chase (12%): A tricky finale with favourites having a weak record in the past. All past winners carried a weight of 11st 4lbs or less. Past winners all raced within last 71 days even though 4 of the last 8 failed to complete the course last time. Trainer to watch: Ms LV Russell (won 2004 & 2008).
